Hi, I’m Jewels
Every life holds a story. Mine is a journey of faith, family, loss, grace, and the hope that carried me through.

My Story From the Healing Porch
A Journey of Faith, Family, Grace, and Hope
Where My Story Began
My roots run deep in East Texas.
In 1898, five of my family’s brothers loaded their wagons, hitched their mules, and traveled from Georgia to a small farming community originally called New Hope—now known as Sunnyvale, Texas. Five more brothers were already waiting for them. Together they settled the land, raised cotton, built homes, and created a community where family, faith, and hard work were simply the way of life.
That heritage shaped me.
I grew up surrounded by both sets of my grandparents, great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins, and neighbors who felt like family because they were family. For forty years I lived wrapped in the love of generations who taught me that God comes first, family matters, and serving others is a life well lived.
Those lessons became the foundation I would one day need.
When Life Changed
Like so many people, my life didn’t unfold the way I imagined.
I walked through broken marriages, betrayal, abuse, addiction within my family, financial loss, and seasons where everything I had spent decades building seemed to disappear.
There were times when all I could fit into a used car were a few clothes, family photographs, treasured keepsakes, and the hope that somehow God still had a plan.
He did.
Working on ranches across Texas, caring for horses, buffalo, guests, and later caring for my parents, my grandchildren, and anyone God placed in my path, I slowly discovered something beautiful.
Purpose often grows in the places where pain once lived.
Walking Through Grief
Our family has experienced heartbreaking loss.
We’ve buried loved ones, battled addiction, faced illness, survived strokes and a heart attack, and lived through tragedies that still leave unanswered questions today.
Some wounds never completely heal.
Grief doesn’t simply disappear.
But I have learned something I hold onto every single day:
Hope can live beside grief.
Faith can stand where answers cannot.
And God is still faithful, even when life is painfully unfinished.
Those truths have carried me farther than my own strength ever could.
Why I Write
People often ask why I write books.
The answer is simple.
Because somewhere, someone is sitting where I once sat—feeling alone, exhausted, afraid, or wondering if tomorrow will ever be better.
I write to tell them it can.
Whether I’m writing children’s books that teach kindness and faith, sharing personal stories of perseverance, or creating resources for those walking through grief and life’s hardest seasons, my desire is always the same:
To leave people with a little more hope than they had before.
Hope Beyond the Stars
Hope Beyond the Stars was born from a simple belief:
Our greatest pain does not have to become the end of our story.
It can become the beginning of someone else’s healing.
This ministry exists to encourage hearts, share practical resources, publish books that inspire hope, and remind people that even during life’s darkest nights, there are still stars shining above the clouds.
One day I hope to see Star Bright Ranch become a place where people can come to rest, heal, reconnect with God, and remember that hope is never truly lost.
That dream continues to grow one step at a time.
Today
Today my life is quieter than it once was.
My son is living in recovery and rebuilding his life. My grandchildren have grown into adults, and now I have the joy of watching great-grandchildren fill our family with new life and laughter.
I still carry grief.
I still have questions that may never be answered.
But I no longer let those questions define me.
Instead, I choose purpose.
I choose faith.
I choose hope.
And every morning, I choose to open the porch door once again.
You’re Always Welcome Here
If you’ve found your way here carrying your own burdens, I want you to know something.
You don’t have to have all the answers.
You don’t have to pretend you’re okay.
You don’t have to walk alone.
Whether you came because of a book, a blog post, a conversation, or simply because you needed a little encouragement today, I hope you’ll stay awhile.
Pull up a chair.
Watch the sunrise with me.
Listen to the birds.
Take a deep breath.
And together, let’s believe that no matter what yesterday looked like…
There is still hope beyond the stars.

A Porch through the Generations
The home passed from my great-grandfather to my grandfather, then to a cousin, and eventually to me. More than a century later, it remains part of our family’s living story.
